Khmer Girls in Action (KGA) is a community-based organization whose mission is to build a progressive and sustainable Long Beach community that works for gender, racial and economic justice led by Southeast Asian young women. We envision a safe, healthy and just world where all people are free from oppression and are able to determine their lives and communities.
Major KGA accomplishments and community impact:
Youth Leadership Development
KGA provides culturally informed programming and rapid response resources for youth leaders to navigate systemic barriers to education, economic stability, health, and safety.
Through our program and campaigns, KGA has trained over 800 youth to be politically engaged community organizers who dismantle systemic oppression and advance equity.
Civic Engagement
KGA consistently mobilizes a young, progressive, multiracial voting block to turn out in record numbers during primary, general, and special elections.
We hire alumni, transitional-age youth, and community members to work as part-time seasonal canvassers, who engage with over 10,000 voters 2-3 times a year.
We helped to pass policies that increase safety nets and public dollars; we expanded protections on statewide access to abortions and contraceptives; and we secured the first youth fund, language and living wage ordinance, decriminalized poverty, and much more!
What will your contributions help support?
With the March 2023 purchase of a multistory building, KGA is realizing a longstanding youth vision to create a “Youth Movement and Education Center.” The center will support the development of youth and new leaders and become a hub for arts, healing, community programs, and social justice campaigns.
Donate today to help us build out our new youth movement center!
