Long Beach Bike Co Op

Hello Long Beach! We are a group of bicycle enthusiasts who feel like life is better when you understand how easy it is to fix your own bicycle. As the saying goes, "Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." We delight in showing our fellow community members how simple it can be to get their old bikes back on the road and how straightforward it can be to get ride of that weird creaking nose you hear every once in a while.

The positive knock-on effects from this sort of work are huge. Thousands of our fellow citizens cycle to get to places of work, leisure, and recreation each day. These people are often those who are unable to afford a car. Enabling them to be self-sufficient in the care of their primary vehicle can be a life-changing practice, saving them money and time for other things. Our work also enables more people to fulfill their transportation needs by cycling. This improves air quality, reduces road traffic, and lowers demand on automobile parking for everyone. Even people who drive everywhere benefit from our work.

Right now, our organization is serving the community with pop-up events. Our goal is to have a permanent space to call home from which we can expand our outreach. We would like to offer standing shop hours, tools for more complex repairs, as well as affordable new and used spare parts. A space would also enable us to take bicycles as donations from the community, fix them, and resell them. This would serve as a revenue stream, a huge diversion of waste from landfills, and as a way to teach more people how to fix more bikes!
