Mission
Long Beach Organic is a environmental nonprofit organization operating nine organic community gardens in the city limits of Long Beach, California. Founded in 1994, the organization locates urban vacant lots from public and private owners and turns them into beautiful community gardens for local and sustainable food production.
Long Beach Organic values environmentalism, and manages 9 parcels of land organically and sustainably. Our environmental stewardship impacts all of Long Beach, combatting urban heat islands, reducing polluted rain run off, and promoting healthier environments by not using harmful chemicals like round up or other pesticides.
Our Programs:
-Gateway to Gardening: We host over 12 free family friendly educational events per year!
-Giving Gardens: We have donated 17,000lbs of fresh, organic produce to California State University, Long Beach's Food Pantry since 2020. Our partnership ensures the over 300 students visiting per day have access to local, organic produce every week.
-Community Garden Plots: With our over 300 garden plots, Long Beach community members have a chance to have their own green space to grow their own produce. Our community gardens are community hubs for local neighbors.
Community is important to us! Through our intern program we host over 15 interns per year from UCI, CSULB, and LBCC. Teaching a new generation on environmental sustainability, community engagement, and nonprofit management.
