Transform youth through cultural exchange and education—your support helps shape the next generation of compassionate, informed global citizens.
Each year, Sister Cities of Long Beach offers a range of programs designed for young people, such as international short-term student exchanges, the Digital Pen Pal Program, and the Young Artists and Authors Showcase. These initiatives provide youth with opportunities to forge new global friendships, explore diverse cultures, share their art, and engage in enriching experiences. Participants will gain insights into the education systems, technology, business practices, trade and cruise ports, and climate challenges of Long Beach's Sister Cities, broadening their understanding of the world and its many facets.
Today Long Beach has six Sister Cities and one Friendship City: Yokkaichi, Japan, 1963 Qingdao, China, 1984 Sochi, Russia, 1989 Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 1993 Mombasa, Kenya, 2007 Bacolod, Philippines (Friendship City), 2018 Taoyuan, Taiwan, 2022
To create and strengthen partnerships between the City of Long Beach, CA and communities in other countries to build people-to-people global cooperation and promote the exchange of mutually beneficial interests relating to social, cultural, community, educational, environmental and technological arenas.
We support students of all ages in experiencing other cultures, learning about citizen diplomacy, and making friends from around the world.
We aim to be an inspiring force that promotes peace through global exchanges that create community impact and kindle lifelong friendships.
