BRING 500 BOOKS TO LONG BEACH TEENS!

WHAT IS THE BOOK TRUCK?

The Book Truck is a 501(c)(3) literacy nonprofit organization based in Long Beach. We bring free high-quality books to underserved teens and young adults in L.A. and Long Beach. Our free book fairs and literacy boxes allow teens to access and own new and diverse books, some for the very first time.

In 2024-25 we served 7,500 under-resourced teens and gave away over 13,000 high-quality, diverse books.

OUR VISION

A world in which every teen can learn, explore, engage, and thrive as a reader.

Since The Book Truck moved its operations to Long Beach in 2017 we have made it part of our mission to serve teens right where we live. Raising $5,000 through Long Beach Gives will make sure that 500 books go home with teens here in Long Beach.

THE GOAL

We are raising $5,000 to secure 500 books for teens across Long Beach. Donations to our Long Beach Gives campaign will go straight to teens who live and attend school right here in Long Beach.

Our current Long Beach partners include:

Cabrillo High
Wilson High
Shortstop (LB Bar Foundation)
Elite Skills Development
Long Beach Parks
Long Beach Women's Shelter
Long Beach Job Corps Center
Renaissance High for the Arts
Reid High School
Jordan High School Long Beach
Polytechnic High
Millikan High School

“With every year, I have more classes signing up to come. I always include our Special Ed students in an effort to be more inclusive. Thank you to The Book Truck and its dedicated staff!!!” - Lia Ladas, Librarian, Wilson High School, LBUSD

“Because of The Book Truck, I went from not being a reader to being a reader. I’m not sure I would have graduated from high school if it hadn’t been for them.”-Jonathan M., Book Truck visitor and volunteer

"Students were beaming with excitement as they were gifted with free books from The Book Truck. The gift of story is truly a wonderful thing, and our teenagers were so grateful for this!
