I first came to the HSLB as a curious bartender from down the street. When I was working at EJ Malloy's, we got new neighbors, and they had a lot of cool things on their walls. I bought a sweet map that still hangs on my wall today.
Years later as an MLIS student, I remembered that cool place and thought they'd be a great resource for a project I was working on... they were! When pandemic restrictions lessened, I volunteered as a cataloger.
Since 2021, I have been able to work here as the Cemetery Tour Assistant, Research Manager, Outreach and Membership, and now, Archivist. I've written newsletters and run social media campaigns. I've gotten to work on projects such as A Woman's Place, the Educational Opportunity Program, the Cambodian American 1.5 Generation, Centro de la Raza, The Workers' Harbor, Represented At Last, and more.
Hopefully everyone gets a chance to see the work we are lucky enough to do here at HSLB. I am eternally grateful and proud to be a part of this extraordinary team. If you can give, please do, but more importantly, check out the histories we get to share from the amazing and diverse city of Long Beach.
