We are making a comic book about the historic Pike with youth so that they will learn as they write and explore story lines.

We are going to be working with a local comic book store to set up a working group for this and other initiatives.

How do you write a comic book? We are doing it one little bit at a time with whomever will help us to advance this goal. Your contribution will help us to engage more artists, writers and lovers of comic books and Historic Long Beach.

We started the comic book with an advertisement in the Press Telegram in 2020. It was COVID times and we held a remote class participated in by just a couple of students.

In 2021, we entered the Long Beach Augmented Reality challenge with the red car and some information about the Pike.

In 2022 we previewed the story of Paul Miranda who grew up on the historic Pike and in 2023 we published that non-fiction book. It included the art of Nicole Pineda and Don Schmidt and was researched by Cristian King.

In 2023 and 2024 Don Schmidt drew several historic images including the Municipal Auditorium and the old Bandshell.

In 2024 Emmy award winning animation artist and creator of the Sonambulo comic book series, Rafael Navarro, drew several images for our comic book. Specifically, he drew the Cyclone Racer, the Laff in the Dark ride, Elmer McCurdy (a real, mummified outlaw on the Pike), Laffing Sal and the entrance to the Jergins Tunnel.

Two interns in summer, 2024, created an activity book about historic Long Beach (Past and present).
