I am a longtime board member of Jazz Angels for a very specific reason.  Music education has made an incredible impact on my life. Through my experiences in school and in extra-curricular music programs, I was exposed to people who taught me the value of working long and diligently at something challenging. I learned to not quit. I was taught how to take constructive criticism, how to make mistakes and learn from them, how to work as a team, and how to listen to others. The lessons I learned in my music education from teachers and role models truly enabled me to get through the 12+ years of college it took to complete my Ph.D.

Jazz Angels serves a diverse population of young people, teaching them in small groups and encouraging creativity. The training is as diverse as the kids that we serve, going from music fundamentals to jazz to mariachi. While many of the alumni from this program have gone on to advanced music programs at respected universities and some have gone on to be professional musicians, those goals are not the most important aspects of the program.  Our goal is to foster character, individual responsibility, and self-esteem through music education.
