The heART of Survival Support Group is a project benefiting sexual assault and domestic abuse survivors that poetess, multimedia artist, and classically trained vocalist, Crystal Hart, as well as poetess and Licensed Professional Clinical Councilor (LPCC), Ravina Wadhwani, are creating and funding with a micro grant from the Long Beach Arts Council that they are applying for, as well as other fundraising efforts through donations to City Heart, a local arts based, trauma and story focused non-profit. This support group series will offer participants an opportunity to connect through art, music, dance, storytelling, poetry, and community. This group will be open to all survivors regardless of artistic experience or background while fostering their undiscovered talents. We will be advertising our project’s small group availability to sexual assault and domestic abuse survivors through City HeART’s connections to the Villages at Cabrillo in Long Beach, CA and the general public. Our hope is to continue to raise funds for this effort so that we may expand our project to ongoing support groups that further trauma survivor’s emotional expression, give them hope for healing, create a safe space for healthy connections to form, and to help fund each survivor’s future therapy. To help fund the survivors' future therapy, CityHeART plans on anonymously publishing the stories of the participants’ healing journals while in the group under a pen name in the Survivor Songs Story Series. Therapy interns at CityHeART will continue to treat the participants once the group has concluded. This group also plans on traveling to different open mics and art galleries around Long Beach City to further a sense of community engagement and help each survivor to find healthy, healing outlets for their emotional expression.
