$50,000 Goal

This year, the Long Beach City College Foundation team is raising funds to support the LB College Promise.

The Long Beach College Promise, which we have been the sole funders of since it was established in 2008, extends the opportunity of a college education to every student in the Long Beach Unified School District to create a more vibrant community. This innovative and nationally recognized initiative is transforming the lives of students and the city's economic future by placing higher education within reach for all. Originally designed to provide 1 year of free tuition at LBCC for qualified Long Beach Unified School District graduates, the program now provides 2 free years, as well as pathways for dual enrollment and guaranteed transfer to California State University, Long Beach. For the 2019-2020 school year, we provided over $1,000,000 in scholarships and an additional $1,000,000 to support programs at Long Beach City College.

The State of California's College Promise is very flexible and the funds may be used for a variety of college and living expenses. The Long Beach College Promise (LBCP) will continue to support tuition for students for the second year of classes at LBCC. The LBCP is an exclusive partnership for students of Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD). To be eligible, students must enroll at LBCC directly following graduation from an LBUSD high school. The LBCP and Promise 2.0 provide experience programming, career development, and mentoring to LBCC students. Promise 2.0 provides transfer admissions pathways to specific majors at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) and dual advisement and future student benefits with CSULB.

As a Long Beach College Promise student will receive the following benefits:
- Two years of free tuition at LBCC (Fall and Spring terms only)
- Local preferences for transfer admission to CSULB provided students meet the major-specific requirements
- Individualized Transfer Support
- Participation in the Viking Summer Voyage - a FREE two-week summer bridge program that will help you transition to LBCC
- Access to an LBCC Student Success Network of academic coaches, mentors, and counselors who will support your student's academic success
- Enrollment in a first-year college success course
- Assistance during your second year at LBCC that will be focused on career development and mentoring
- Join the First Year Experience ASPIRE Club
